I watch Fox News and am told by a commercial approved by John McCain that he’s a true conservative who was photographed with Ronald Reagan. I listen to the Clear Channel guys and am told that McCain is not a conservative. Most of the Townhall people are saying that he’s not Reagan, but better than Billary or Obama. The thought of voting for the Senator who implied that I am a bigot for objecting to Z Visas actually affects me physically; I really can feel a knot in my stomach. He says he’s seen the light and will secure the borders, like that’ll happen in the next four years. I don’t know that he’s actually abridged my freedom to speak. I don’t really care that he didn’t vote for tax cuts, which benefit me and my family; but do care that he now wants to make them permanent. I don’t care if he wants to close Guantanomo, but do care if he wants to bring its occupants to the mainland.
If you find yourself in similar positions on this candidate I recommend joining, at least temporarily, a new movement. You can still be a Reagan Conservatives; but with no one to support at this time I suggest we form a new branch, the McCain’t Conservatives. Yes McCain has enough Conservative qualities to still be a Conservative, but enough deficiencies to not be a True (Reagan) Conservative. Until we have a True Conservative to support we can warily lend our votes if not for McCain then against the Democrats. We can temporarily be the McCain’t Conservatives.
